Course content:
Lecture 1. Introduction. Basic concepts study
Basic concepts study
Aberration, infinity, high key, low key, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, depth of field.
Shooting Modes
Auto, programme automatic, shutter priority on, the aperture priority on, manual mode. Analysis of pros and cons of each Mode.
Basic lens parameters
Focal length — visual angle of the lens in different optical schemes; equivalent focus length; “crop factor”; equivalent enlargement, aperture ratio, diaphragm, DOF (depth of field)

Lecture 2. Composition
The most complicated and fertile class. This lecture will be reflected in all the following ones and in your whole life. Structure of the eye; basis of perception; vizor, symmetry, gaze direction while looking at photo; one-third rule, dynamics in a shot ; ratio among graphic elements in a shot; lines and their roles in a shot; the depth of a shot and the scale; composition and light.
Lecture 3. Light usage in different conditions (theory)
During this lecture we will discuss various weather and light situations. Using photos as examples we will learn how to set necessary settings for different conditions.
Content: characteristics of light: “Quality of light”; front light; side light; back light; overhead light; color (spectral composition) of the light; Different conditions: cloudy day; rain; snow; ice, white frost; fog; twilight, night; moonlight;
The theory of the Landscape and Panoramic photography. How to shoot and glue panoramas?
Lecture 4. Digital editing
Photoshop CS as the main instrument of the photographer. Modern photo browsers and editing programs review.
Why do we have to edit photos? Package editing; curves, levels, brushes, masks, adjustment layers, white Balance, color temperature. Plugin Camera RAW as the main instrument of the primary correction and photo package editing.

Lecture 5. Light usage in different conditions (indoor practice). Create your personal home studio

Lecture 6. Digital photo editing. Portrait retouching
Basic retouching instruments.
Clone Stamp, Headling brush, masks, adjustment layers usage
Quality increase: sharpness, picture noise
People shooting (theory). Light and color, photoset planning. Preparing for outdoor practical shooting.
Lecture 7-8. Light usage in different conditions (outdoor practice). Master class. Theory application. Panorama shooting

Lecture 9. Digital photo editing
Review and discussion of photos taken during Lecture 7-8
Black and White photos. Ways to get them. Pros and cons. Photos with a wide dynamic range.
Final editing – preparing to print and publish on the Internet. Crop. Frames. Copy right.
Lecture 10. Final class. Exam. 3 hours
